| Record Description | This ancient tree stump, decorated by red campion and wood melick grass is the sad remains of a fine wych elm pollard 7m (25ft) girth wych was probably alive during the reign of Henry 8th. These pollards were alive when first recognised by Andrew Fleming during the 1980's and all were recorded by Tom Gledhill before their sudden death from dutch elm beetle attack. Many of these fine old elms are now throwing up young saplings from their root system which still lives. Question! How old are these young saplings? |
