Geology | Complete section through the Great Limestone revealed at The Trough, a fine fault controlled gorge cut by Sleightholme Beck. The Great limestone is overlain by black shales with lingula band close to the base. |
Record Name | Sleightholme Beck, Trough Heads. A walk beside this fine limestone gorge. |
Record Description | The water worn limestone features of this fine stream cut gorge were seen at their very best during this walk. Sleightholme Beck was reduced to a trickle by recent drought conditions. This allowed the polished limestone features usually obscured by torrent conditions to be admired.
The inaccessible limestone cliff lined gorge provides security for a rich flora with many fine specimen trees including one exceptionally large yew tree. |
