Geology Sheer cliff formed from the Underset Limestone with vegetated talus slope below.
Record Name MUK140 Kisdon, Hooker Mill Hole Scar. Relict woodland with yews, juniper and aspen.
Record Description Sheer limestone cliff facing due west. Limestone ashwood with stunted aspens scattered across the whole face of the cliff and self seeding in the turf below. Yews compete hopelessly for space with self seeded larches along the whole of the top edge of the cliff. A number of very small junipers are scattered along the lower part of the cliff. This Scar is the only cliff in Swaledale to possess aspen, juniper and yew in direct association. Vegetation not yet listed.
 Dimensions See photographs
 Geographical area Upper Swaledale
Species Yew with aspen and juniper (prostrate form?)
Additional Notes The migration of self seeded larches from the mature larch plantation is a salutary example of the unexpected consequences of planting exotic trees for the very best of landscape intentions.
