 Geology Mudstones over Crow Limestone. The Crow Limestone is well exposed and forms the bed of Birkdale Beck here.
 Record Name MUK102 Relict woodland with isolated Junipers on Black Scar, Ellers.
 Record Description This low dark north facing cliff supports the species poor woodland characteristic of acid soils derived from mudstones and sandstones of Namurian Age. Nevertheless the woodland community is of great interest in that several junipers (probably the prostrate form (J.communis ssp nana) grow on the cliff including several young bushes.
