Geology | Rock strewn stream bed with many erratic boulders of Shap Granite, Borrowdale Volcanics and some Brockram from the Vale of Eden. This great slab of concrete made with water rolled cobbles has now been identified as the remnant of a weir designed to divert water into a leat providing water to the jute mill at Barnard Castle (Information Les and Sue knight). |

Record Description | Very large erratic slab of concrete deeply embedded on end in the bed of Deepdale Beck. A smaller slab of the same concrete is located in the north bank of the Beck a few metres upstream.
Three layers of water rounded cobbles can be recognised in the end section of this slab. |
Dimensions | 5m*1.6m visible depth unknown. |
Additional Notes | Shap Granites and Borrowdale Volcanic Greenstone boulders are frequent in the bed of Deepdale Beck for a limited distance upstream of the confluence with the River Tees. Small slabs of Permo-Triassic Brockram rock are present but rare. |
