2019 Dig Day One
A beautiful day for the hard work of deturfing; no significant rain and not too hot. A cheerful bunch of hardworking volunteers made a cracking start and by close of play had cleared turf and a significant amount of soil from two large areas.
This is an extensive site of which about a third has been previously excavated. The aim this year is to investigate the extent of the flagged floor in area 1, and what looks like a curvilinear wall. There may also have been an earlier roundhouse. In area 2 there are signs of a further embankment and yard.

For those who don't follow our Twitter feed archaeology_s, (why not?), we had a lovely message on Twitter yesterday from Graham Taylor @Pottedhistory: "Hope the dig goes well this year. Really enjoyed my visit to your site last year. Hope you find lots of pots."
