Potted History
It is very exciting to welcome Graham Taylor of Potted History to speak at our meeting on Tuesday, 8th May at The Buck Hotel in Reeth. His work on replicating Roman and Prehistoric pots using authentic methods has been on view recently at Vindolanda and we were very fortunate last year to welcome him to the Hagg site, where he provided a brief introduction to different styles of pottery using replicas he had made. He also gave the pupils of Arkengarthdale School a great opportunity to handle and discuss realistic examples of Roman pot. Those of you who came on the SWAAG visit to Vindolanda last year may also remember his Roman pottery kiln.
During the afternoon, Graham will also lead a hands-on pottery workshop. For both of these splendid opportunities we have to thank the Fabric of Place project, a community arts initiative organised by Chrysalis Arts.
