Day Fourteen: backfilling and returfing
Lots of people, both volunteers and members, turned up today for a massive team effort to get the soil and turf replaced on what feels like a huge area of excavation. With the help of "Big Willy" and his amazing JCB, we collectively shifted several tons of soil and barrowed it back onto the site where it was raked level in preparation for re-turfing. By close of play we had most of the soil and about half the turf back in place, with some more to finish off tomorrow. One eagle-eyed volunteer even managed to find a piece of pot.
In spite of Met office weather warnings of thundery downpours the weather stayed fine and although the work was arduous, everyone was still smiling. What an amazing bunch of people the volunteers are, by the way; unfailingly cheerful, enthusiastic and tremendously hard working. Hopefully after this experience, some may decide to join us as SWAAG members!
