Day Eleven: Some hard work and then a BBQ!
Another beautiful day in sunny Swaledale as the team got stuck in for a day of hard work and solid progress. There was an excellent turnout with plenty of person-power to do some more trowelling back, while a further small trench was opened so that we could explore the area to the South of the main excavation.
The overall layout of the site is becoming clearer and today it was being recorded on paper using a planning frame; a chance for some of the team to acquire new skills.
Finds included more pot, probably of local origin, and an intriguing piece of dressed stone with a hole in it; perhaps a mould for metal smelting or maybe a bolt hole for a gate or door.
At close of play we all reconvened at the lovely outdoor dining area of the Dales Bike Centre in Fremington where we enjoyed a delicious barbeque. Many thanks to Shirley for organising this; it was a great way to end the day, even if we did have to listen to Philip making a speech.
